It is the little things of every day life that fascinate French artist Gilbert Legrand . . . a coathanger, a comb, a dustpan and brush.

For the things that we buy in the supermarket out of necessity are objects of inspiration for him.

As you can see if you visit his exhibition The Great Show of Little Things in the Main Hall at St James Cavalier open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

He turns them into works of art. Perfect, humorous sculptures that come from a comical world in his mind.

A comb becomes a businessman, a dustpan and brush become Superman and a spanner The Incredible Hulk.

Mr Legrand has been living and working in Toulouse for the last 20 years. After graduating from the Paris Creative Arts academy in Visual Art and Design, he spent five years with a graphics agency before becoming an illustrator in the publishing and advertising industry.

Today he focuses on his sculptures as well as commissioned work with computer graphics.
