Cassar De Malte 2008 wins silver

Marsovin’s Cassar De Malte 2008 recently won a silver medal at the ninth international competition of the world’s best sparkling wines, entitled Effervescents du Monde, at the Lycée Le Castel culinary school in Dijon, France.

The competition, organised by Forum Oenologie, is specifically held for the best sparkling wines worldwide.

Cassar De Malte is produced from the Chardonnay grape variety grown at Wardija Valley Estate.

Using the methode traditionnelle, the wine owes its character and finesse to the grapes harvested in the estate to a minimum of 12 to 24 months maturing on the yeast lees in the bottle.

Cassar De Malte was first produced in 1997 for the millennium celebrations. Since then it has won silver in 2003, 2005 and 2008.

Marsovin director Jeremy Cassar said: “We are overjoyed by the result. It is very rewarding for us that the hard work of the entire winemaking and viticulture team, led by Philip Tonna and Christian Cremona, has been recognised overseas by independent wine experts.”
