Dangerous pavements
I refer to Catherine Vella’s letter Dangerous Pavements (December 23).
I fully agree with Ms Vella that local councils should have inspectors to check the pavements and see how dangerous they are. Many of the pavements have plants obstructing them and people have to step onto the road, especially mothers with pushchairs. This is very dangerous and can cause serious accidents, thereby incurring more expenses for the government to cure the injured. It would be safer and cheaper to keep the pavements in good condition.
It is no wonder people prefer to walk on the road than on the pavements. It is very unfair!

Perhaps we should do away with pavements altogether and have shared roads?

Local councils are a joke just walk through Old College Street and around this area and you will see what a mess the pavements and roads are.
From the bottom of Old College to the top where the crane is i counted more than 30 bumps .
Thank you Sliema local council and a Happy new year you should be ashamed of your work.

Maintenance of pavements has always been entrusted to local councils as one of their main responsibilities. This same applies to regular patching of potholes in local roads.
With regard to the state of our pavements I fail to notice any marked improvements after all these years of local government. Local councils were appointed to precisely look after their own particular zones.
But it seems that most councils are yet to learn how to place their priorities right.

Inspect the pavements? Wish there were some for the council to inspect here!
