Obituary

AZZOPARDI. On December 29, at Jesus of Nazareth Institute, Żejtun, Sister URSOLA of the Missionaries of Jesus of Nazareth congregation, aged 95, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss the General Superior, her sisters of the congregation, nephews, nieces and their families, great nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. Mass præsente cadavere will be said today at 3 p.m. at Jesus of Nazareth Institute chapel, Żejtun, followed by interment in the congregation’s grave at St Gregory Cemetery, Żejtun. No flowers by request but donations to the institute will be great­ly appreciated. Lord, grant her eternal rest.

BAJADA. On December 29, at Mater Dei Hospital, EMANUEL, ex-Bajada Woodworks, of Msida and residing in Marsascala, aged 79, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Joan, his children Mariella and her husband Alex Cutajar, Sandro and his wife Simone, Patricia widow of his son Gennaro, his beloved grandchildren Alexander, Rebecca, Rachelle, Jean Claude, Zach and Nicholas, his great-grandson Triston, his brother Alfred and his wife Speranza and his sister Nena, in-laws and their respective spouses, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 1.45 p.m. for St. Anne parish church in Marsascala, where Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 2.30 p.m., followed by interment in the family grave at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Id-Dar tal-Providenza, Siggiewi, will be greatly appreciated. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

DESIRA BUTTIGIEG. On December 28, MARIE, née Azzopardi, aged 82, widow of Wilfred, passed away at Casa Antonia, Balzan, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her children Tanya and her husband Peter Calascione, Robert and his wife Yvonne, Rosella and her husband Brian Grima, her grandchildren Julian, Paul, Luka, Maxine, Matteo, Jean-Paul and Bettina and her great-grandson Nicholas, her sister Rosa Rizzo and sister-in-law Dorothy Anderson, nephews and nieces, in-laws, other relatives and friends. The funeral cortège leaves Casa Antonia on tomorrow at 9 a.m. for Stella Maris parish church, Sliema, where Mass præsente cadavere will be celebrated at 9.30 a.m., followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Id-Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, and the Equal Partners Foundation, Floriana, will be appreciated. Special thanks to the staff at Casa Antonia for their care and attention. Lord, grant her eternal rest.

GRECH. On December 29, at Mater Dei Hospital, JOHN, of Qormi, aged 75, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Maria, his children George, Carmel and his wife Maria, Alex and his wife Louise, Marica and her husband Keith, his grandchildren Janica, Clara and Kyle, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 7 a.m. for St. George parish church, Qormi, where Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 7.45 a.m., followed by interment in the family grave at the Resurrection Cemetery, Qormi. No flowers by request but donations to Id-Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be appreciated. The family regret they are unable to receive visitors.

Carnival dances

The Malta Council for Culture and the Arts issued a call for applications for non-competitive dance groups to take part in the Malta Carnival 2012, which will be held between February 17 and 21.

Applications can be collected from the council’s offices at 230 Republic Street, Valletta during office hours or by sending an e-mail to noel.damato@maltaculture.com.
