Archbishop Paul Cremona opened the initial phase of the Digital Migration Museum being set up by the Emigrants’ Commission at Dar l-Emigrant in Valletta.

The museum will illustrate the birth and development of emigration and how the communities of Maltese emigrants integrated in the countries where they settled down.

The first phase of the museum features a digital collection management system that will preserve the commission’s records and artefacts.

All the extensive preparatory work in the hall – the main sec-tion of the digital museum – has been completed.

The central digital information podium has also been put in place. The podium, financed through a Vodafone Malta Foundation grant, has eight LED screens, eight touch screen interfaces and computers to drive the digital system.

The government pledged its financial support to the museum along with that of a private bene-factor, Luke Gauci.

The Migration Museum Council said it hoped more benefactors would help fund the project.
