A California teenager has become the youngest person to successfully climb to the summit of the seven tallest mountains on Earth's seven continents - a record held previously by a British boy.

Jordan Romero's mother, Leigh Ann Drake, confirmed today that her 15-year-old son called her after he reached the top of Mt Vinson Massif in Antarctica.

The teenager has beaten the record previously held by 16-year-old British climber George Atkinson.

Jordan's team began the climb on Wednesday. His Facebook page, Find Your Everest, marked reaching the summit, saying the celebration would wait until the descent was complete.

At 10, Jordan climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa, and at 13 he climbed Mt Everest in Asia.
