It was recently reported in the UK Daily Mail that the United States was the most charitable nation in the world. Second was Ireland, closely followed by Australia.
The charity foundation said that due to the worldwide financial turmoil the global population has donated one per cent less than in 2010.
It is also interesting to know that according to the study, giving money to charity is growing faster among the oldest groups. On the other hand, helping strangers is becoming more common among those of middle age.
Meanwhile, efforts to find out Malta’s global performance proved futile, but I am sure that the Maltese rank among the top nations as far as generosity is concerned. I urge everyone to contribute as much as they can afford to tomorrow’s L-Istrina fund-raising telethon on local TV stations in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund, and show the world our never ending concern for those in need.
