Feast enthusiasts have written to the Curia asking for talks to continue on a number of pending issues related to the Church’s document on feasts.

The National Association of Feast Street Decorations yesterday said it did not agree that the Ecclesiastical authorities should be totally responsible for the organisation and management of feasts, particularly with regard to external festivities.

The Curia this week announced it had reached a deal with the Band Clubs Association over the holding of feasts.

The agreement follows discussions between the two parties aimed at ensuring the celebration of religious feasts remains in keeping with their Christian and social spirit.

Outside festivities are normally the remit of lay organisations, and parish churches have no say in the matter. But this changed with the new document.

The association said there were other initiatives proposed in the Church document that it supported, including the involvement of all entities concerned in the organisation of a feast.
