A gaunt-looking 24-year-old man yesterday denied stealing a purse containing a cash card and using it to withdraw €500.

Glen Aquilina of Żabbar took the purse from a trolley in the Park Towers supermarket in Sta Venera on Tuesday and used it within the hour to withdraw the money from Ħamrun, Police Inspector Tony Cachia said in court.

He then tried to withdraw €250 more in Msida but failed.

Mr Aquilina denied stealing the purse and cash and relapsing.

Magistrate Audrey Demicoli granted him bail against a personal guarantee of €3,000.
