Warden accused of fabricating crime to get back at ex-girlfriend
Unable to trace his former girlfriend who owed him €27,000, a local warden reacted by issuing a large number of parking tickets against her, a police officer said in court yesterday.
Oswald Lanzon, 42, of Birżebbuġa, was caught last week when he issued a ticket for an offence that supposedly occurred in Marsascala when she happened to be in Gozo, Police Inspector Frankie Sammut told Magistrate Neville Camilleri.
Mr Lanzon denied fabricating a crime, issuing tickets when no offence had been committed, harassing the woman and committing a crime he was in duty bound to prevent.
Magistrate Camilleri granted him bail against a personal guarantee of €5,000 and a deposit of €500. He also ordered Mr Lanzon not to approach the town where the woman lives.

This is another case where an individual thinks he owns the position he occupies for which he is being paid for as a service. This issue needs to be stated clearly that work is not owned by the individual but sold as a service in a fair deal.

Goes to show how easy it is for traffic wardens to abuse their position. Had the woman in question not been in Gozo, it would have been his word against hers, and guess who the local tribunal would have believed.
I think that it is time that wardens are issued with digital cameras to substantiate their evidence. Like that it will be fairer all round.
