Ramblers’ weekend

The Malta Ramblers’ Association this year came up with the idea of organising a Christmas luxury weekend break at the Radisson Blu.

What a weekend it was! Several members together with new ones accepted the invitation and were not disappointed. It was a weekend of great fun with a choice of easy to moderate walks which tempted almost all the participants.

During the walks, visits were made to several sites. The first was to the Elysium, the nursery run by the Gaia Foundation. Native flowers, shrubs and trees are grown here for replanting around the islands.

This was followed by a guided visit to the Skorba and Ta’ Ħaġrat temples.

Our last guided walk was to the Majjistral National Park. We walked to the old barracks used by the British where we were met by the leading naturalist Annalise Falzon, who explained the interesting flora and highlighted the other cultural features as we followed her along the paths of our only national park.

The quiz nights which followed the buffet dinners ended the day in an active and cheerful mood. Two vouchers each for Tea for Two Persons at the Radisson Blu Hotel were kindly donated by the management for the two winners each night.

On behalf of the group I take this opportunity to thank Alex Vella, the president of the association, who together with the committee members, walk leaders and guides made this a pleasant weekend for us all.

Our special thanks go to the management at Radisson Blu Hotel Golden Bay for offering us a special price which besides half board also included the use of indoor pool, jacuzzi, sauna and gym. All these amenities together with the comfortable seaside-view rooms will surely make this a yearly event on the Ramblers’ Association calendar.
