The waterpolo league format for next year is still under the ASA’s microscope.

About two weeks ago the council of the association was due to start discussing a possible revision of the league system which in summer had the first four-placed teams involved in a series of best-of-three in the semi-finals and best-of-five play-offs in the final to determine the champions.

Several suggestions were being mentioned to make the competition more attractive and maintain interest as to the destination of the league honours till the very end.

Discussions at executive committee level will be ongoing in the next few days.

It is reliably understood that the ASA officials are advocating the retention of the play-offs system but with minor changes.

These will involve some form of bonus to be carried forward by the teams, probably in the shape of earlier head-to-head wins when the play-offs are due.

A decision is expected, possibly by the end of the year.
