MFA president Norman Darmanin Demajo said today that the  association has made a formal approach for Dusan Fitzel to return to Malta as new national coach.

A meeting took place in Prague earlier this month. Mr Darmanin Demajo told a meeting of the FA council that Fitzel did not rule out a return as Malta coach. Fitzel, currently holds the post of technical director of the Czech FA.

Robert Gatt, the technical director, has been confirmed as caretaker coach for the friendly game against Liechtenstein on February 29.

MFA are looking to appoint a new national coach after they terminated the contract of John Buttigieg in October.
