Carol Walsh made an emotional return to competitive running yesterday by winning the Urban Jungle Mdina to Spinola race, held in memory of her late husband John who passed away in September. Walsh, making a comeback after an almost two-year break, completed the 17.4km distance in one hour five minutes and 14 seconds. Carmen Hili was second in 1:06.55 while Angele Sammut was third in 1:08.01. Italian runner Vincenzo Scuro took the men’s title after clocking 57 minutes 39 seconds. Jonathan Balzan again had to settle for second in 57.48, just ahead of veteran Charles Cilia (57:51). A record 454 runners crossed the finish line yesterday, bettering last year’s best mark when 377 completed the race.
