Carmel Agius, a teacher of Art and Design at the Boys’ Secondary School of St Clare College, Sliema, has constructed a large crib made entirely of recycled material.

The crib, built with the help of Mr Agius’s Form I students even after school hours.

It took five weeks to complete, and it partly covers the school’s façade.

Mr Agius said it was an exciting experience of teamwork for the boys.

The material used is mostly carton, recycling the boxes containing the interactive whiteboards which were recently installed in the schools. Mr Agius thought this would be a wonderful way of putting the large amount of carton to good use.

Branches and trunks discarded after pruning was carried out on the trees surrounding the school, were also used in the crib.

Other students busied themselves with other decorations and the making of small cribs.
