It is very easy to say good things about a person after he passes away. It is all that easier when that person’s words and actions truly deserve such praise.

Alfred Muscat was such a person. His gentle manners, his diplomatic arguments and his intelligent comments made any discussion with him worth its while.

He was not only completely dedicated to his work but his dependants and colleagues felt that they had a true leader among them. He was not the one who told you what you wanted to hear but what you had to do. That is why his opinion was greatly respected.

His work in the lotteries sector, both in the public and private phases, was speckled with foresight, innovation and continuous improvements. All lotto receivers and employees at the Public Lotto Department and Maltco will surely vouch that they are better off thanks to his leadership. Mr Muscat also loved football. I am not qualified to speak of his work at Floriana FC, where he was honorary president. I can only say that anybody involved in Maltese football can learn something from him. I know I have.

Thank you Mr Muscat. You will be sorely missed.
