Marsa council deplores destruction of trees
Video: Sandra Scerri
The Marsa council has deplored the uprooting of trees from Spencer Garden without any attention being paid the environment
It asked why following several campaigns by the authorities for trees to be planted, such action was being tolerated.
It appealed for action to be taken against the perpetrators and said that although it was not against the promised project which would remove drainage odour from the area, it was against the destruction of these trees.

Please study the video well. The destruction seems to be of 1 tree which species seems NOT protected. I may think the authorities know what they are doing and had in mind and expect this kind of criticsm. Possibly they will replace too. If the tree is protected then this criticsm is CORRECT. Then, pull out all similar UNPROTECTED species trees from our main roads. They are a shame. That does not help the environment , our beuatiful island and TOURISM as tourists do notice. Then how many times we criticise our island that there is nothing here. SO PULL OUT THESE TREES.

Exactly the same like it is our country & the famous city gate without gate new Piano's comlex. Does it make any sense "garden without trees" Hon PM & Hon Minister for environment? The trees does not need any €500 increase weekly but contribute 100% for us more than your government! Shame on you!

That's part of my life you're destroying. As kids living in the area ,we used to climb on those trees. We knew every branch and every foothold and handhold. We had no TV and computer then,so this was a sort of adventure playground for us. We used to call it the "jungle" as bushes and plants grew wild .Alas, most of them are gone now. Take care of what remains.

For all those that are unaware, the government plans to destroy all trees that are not Maltese, little does the government know that all trees have a history, some Arabic, British and so on.
MEPA have it in the pipline to destroy all trees we have in our countryside Private or Public. The whole idea is that we are brought to more open spaces, thus enabling contractors to build further.
This is madness, and I challenge any member of MEPA to say otherwise. It is about time that MEPA is no more !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whilst I condemn such destruction of these trees when they could have been transplanted, I am glad that such actions now arouse strong protests. We are more protective of the environment. Well done!

To arrive at the mepa building you must cast your eyes on the construction site at Spencer Garden .at least we the hoi polloi do.If those at Hexagom house do not bother to safeguard what they can see ,much less they trouble themselves on what they don't see.The more we lack trees the more we cut them down.

How could that be? Recently the minister of environment attended to a meeting regarding the climate change. Gonzi the par idejn sodi issued a green paper about the `green` effect that he wants to instil in his party, And he assures the people that the `new` power station will be the most user friendly state of the art power station in the world. Hawwadni ha nifhmek lol.

Remember the trees uprooted and cut to pieces at the San Anton Junction. History repeats itself. Those trees were cut down instead of replanted. Shame on the dept concerned. (or maybe someone high up needed logs for his fireplace)

The Environmental Landscape Consortium (ELC) always have firewood for sale I wonder where they get it from? Possible conflict of interest anyone?
As for that tree being dead, its alive I can assure you all as I pass by it everyday!!!!

If this is so, this is really serious and criminal, an investigation is required here, to determine the origin of this firewood.

I was the one who took this vidoe, I witnessed these trees being put down. And I can assure you that these trees were all alive. The others that are still standing maybe by end of this week they will not be there anymore.
C Pisani

All the trees there are alive. I used to walk past them to go to work. One of them does look dry, but it was alive. There are some of the large trees, the ones closer to the road that have red markings on them, and I was worried that such large trees would be felled to make way for whatever they are doing there.
I hope NO MORE trees are destroyed in this small garden, which by the way is only a few meters away from MePA. The "e" is lowercase to reflect the importance the ENVIRONMENT has for this department.

Nahseb li tajjeb naraw jekk is-sigar kienux xjahu jew waslux biex imutu qabel ma nghidu li m'ahniex favur l-ambjent u nidepploraw kull ma jigri f'dan il-pajjiz... Kollox ghandu l-eta tieghu...
