A 29-year-old Serb who stole a car while drunk and then smashed into a wall was yesterday given until Monday to pay for the damage while on remand.

Nikola Peric, from St Julians, took the Volkswagen at about 3.45 a.m. yesterday and just hours later in court admitted to the crime and the crash.

He also admitted to driving dangerously and while drunk, damaging the wall, violently resisting arrest and driving without a licence.

Magistrate Francesco Depasquale remanded him in custody and gave him until Monday to pay for the damages before handing down judgement.
