Valletta are poised to offer a contract to Serb Dragan Antanasijevic.

The Maltese champions have made the signing of a central midfielder one of their top priorities for the January transfer window.

Antanasijevic looks to have left a very good impression on coach Jesmond Zerafa and his assistant Leonard Farrugia since joining the Citizens for a trial last week.

The 24-year-old, currently on the books of Serbian second division club FK Bask, is due to return to his home country today but Valletta are expected to open discussions with his agent soon.

Judging by a video clip posted on youtube, Antanasijevic comes across a hard-working, efficient midfielder with a good distribution of the ball.

It also emerged yesterday that Valletta may also give a trial to an African who can be used in different roles, especially in defence.

The Citizens already have six foreigners on their books, namely Brazilian trio Denni, Ramon and William Barbosa, Nigerian striker Alfred Effiong, Burkina Faso winger Ousseni Zongo and English goalkeeper Matthew Towns.

Valletta’s bid to bring in new overseas players raises question marks about the future of some of their current foreigners, especially Ramon who has just returned from a long injury lay-off.
