Parks, plazas, the city centre and the river come to light with the "Alumbrado General" of Medellín, Colombia.

An event held every december to mark Christmas, this year the Alumbrado, that starts in early December, is a tribute to Medellín's 16 neighbourhoods.

Thousands of tourists from all over the country attend the traditional lighting up.

Parks, plazas and both sides of the river Medellín were fitted with a total of 16 million coloured bulbs and 2,000 light sources.

250 tons of iron support structures such as trams and trains in a homage to the city.

Medellín has spent 4 million of dollars to produce the main "Alumbrado" in the country.

Hundreds of smaller alumbrados are held all over the country, where towns and villages compete to be the best.
