Sliema Stompers rugby club raised €16,000 for men’s health charities last month through its participation in the international ‘Movember’ sponsored moustache growing campaign.

Stompers enrolled in the official UK Movember campaign and the rugby boys grew and groomed their moustaches with great dedication throughout the month.

The Movember Foundation has transformed the month of November into a month of sponsored moustache growing to raise funds for and awareness of men’s health issues, particularly prostate cancer. Official Movember campaigns take place in Australia, New Zealand, the US, Canada, the UK, Finland, the Netherlands, Spain, South Africa and Ireland.

By the end of the month Stompers’ moustachioed members had raised €8,000 through donations from the general public and other fundraising events related to the cause. Betfair – Stompers’ main sponsor – have matched the sum collected by the club, bringing the overall total to €16,000.

The money raised will be used to fund research and clinical trials to advance the understanding of prostate cancer, and the development of drugs, treatments, tests and long-term care to improve the lives of men with prostate cancer.

Stompers thanked family, friends and all who supported for helping to make a difference.
