I have lost one of the closest friends I ever had and I wish so much that I had the power to turn back time.
On November 24 I was in London watching our favourite team Arsenal playing. Lorry Borg was one of the pillars upon which our local supporters club was built.
That Thursday, I received a call from my good friend Ritchie, who broke the tragic news that Lorry had passed away early in the morning.
I was in tears and started asking myself why, after all those wonderful years of friendship, I had to be away from the island and unable to pay my heartfelt last respects to Lorry. I had to rely on my family to represent me at the funeral.
To me, Lorry was a friend, a brother, a father... so many things. We used to meet once a month, have lunch somewhere, and spend a few hours talking about our families first, before the conversation moved on to our favourite team.
Lorry was a real family man, devoted to his wife Vanna, his four children and nieces. God bless them all – I am sure Lorry will guide them from heaven.
Thirty-one years of friendship is no joke and will never be forgotten. My family and I pass on our deepest condolences to Lorry’s family and relatives because we know what a precious jewel you have lost.
May he rest in peace.
