I have been living in Ġużè Calì Street, Lija, for three years and we have always had problems with the football ground. I know it is a great investment and a fantastic place for those who play there but we residents have lost all the peace that this village has to offer. And trying to park has become a nightmare.
On our street, when football is being played cars are all over the place, including pavements, ramps and private garages.
When one comes back from work the last thing one wants is to go round in circles to park. This has become our everyday routine since the reopening of this ground. Both the players who drive and the parents of those who don’t, try to park in our street. The ground is surrounded with parking spaces on the side of the University Residence but it seems the entrance has become the one near Percius Garage.
In the morning, after having to literally walk a mile to fetch your car, one sees lots of empty parking bays in the street after everyone would have left late at night. This is unjust and becoming unbearable.
We would like answers from the competent authority, be it the Lija or Balzan councils.
I do not know whether Mepa should come into this, considering that we do not know whether access to the ground from near Percius is in order. This was initially an opening to facilitate works but now it seems to have become a convenient entrance for all and sundry.
