Some 300 members of the Jurade de Saint Emilion, one of the oldest institutions in the world of wine, were this morning treated to the voices of tenor Joseph Calleja and soprano Gillian Zammit during Mass at St John's CoCathedral.

The Jurats, in Malta on a visit, wore their robes for the occasion.

Following Mass, they visited Caravaggio's Beheading of St John and were given a presentation by cathedral curator Cynthia de Giorgio.

A champagne reception followed at the Casino Maltese before lunch hosted by President and Mrs Abela at the Palace in Valletta.

All proceeds from the lunch will go to the Community Chest Fund.
