Seminar discusses the transition to the private cloud

The transition to the private cloud, from a virtualised IT environment, features at the top of today’s chief information officer’s priorities and this issue was comprehensively addressed at a seminar organised recently by Systec Ltd, a local HP distributor and business partner.

At the event, HP, Microsoft and VMware presented their vision for this transition to the cloud, where computing power and services are provided over the internet rather than on computers at the offices of an organisation.

The seminar, the fifth in the series of annual events, was well-attended by CEOs, CIOs, IT managers, IT consultants and executives.

Takuya Hirano, Microsoft’s multi-country general manager for Central and Eastern Europe, delivered the keynote speech. He delved into the latest trends in the worldwide IT cloud and went on to highlight Microsoft’s vision for the next few years. Microsoft portrays a cross-platform approach to the cloud and cloud system centre management where the cloud user may select a preferred cloud approach when transitioning from a virtualised IT infrastructure.

HP’s strategy for transformation from the virtualised model to the private/hybrid cloud models was elaborated by Szilard Bolla, HP Cloud Lead for Central and Eastern Europe. eBay’s use of cloud computing was used as a case study.

Anthanassios Sioutas, VMware’s senior systems engineer for Greece, highlighted the significant role played by the company’s IT business management solutions, in order to assist with a successful transition to the cloud.

A new feature in Systec’s seminar series was the round-table discussion session, chaired by Nuno Fernandes, Systec’s technology solutions manager. This allowed HP, Microsoft and VMware to air their views on various relevant issues and the floor was also to place questions for discussion directly to the speakers.
