MTA, MIA welcome Air France
Malta International Airport and the Malta Tourism Authority this afternoon welcomed the announcement by Air France yesterday that it will be starting a scheduled service between Malta and Toulouse from April.
This will be the first time that Air France will be operating a scheduled service to Malta.
Malta Airport CEO Austin Calleja said it was significant that a legacy carrier like Air France had decided to put Malta in its network. This tied in with the efforts of MIA and the Malta Tourism Authority to imrove Malta’s accessibility.
MTA CEO, Josef Formosa Gauci said Air France's commencement of scheduled operations to Malta would further enhance the Maltese islands' presence in the French market. The move also reflected a certain confidence in Destination Malta as a viable route for a wide cross section of carriers, including one of Europe's leading legacy airlines, Air France.

@ M Micallef: What dismal pax growth rates are you on about? MIA is going to close this year with the best-ever number of pax - a record. And what 'worry capacity decrease' are you referring to?
You know what is dismal Sur M Mifsud? The fact that Malta attracted one more airline - a legacy one too - in a year that has seen Malta registering a record, and you try to sow doubts even at the end of such a hugely successful year for tourism all around. Who knows, perhaps Joseph of Gvern immexxi minni' will tell us to copy Cyprus, which has had a decrease in volumes this year.

As usual Ms. Borg you jump on things you have little or no knowledge on, probably on command of your masters. Records are for press releases. The reality is that in the aviation business, other than the deep crises such as SARS, 9/11 etc. it always registers growth, in fact the industry is fuelled by very strong growth figures such as c.1.5 factor on the GDP. therefore to be in line with growth figures, MIA should have registered at least 2.2% growth within the EU. Saying that year after year is a record is a obvious. The fact is that again MIA, MTA et al will be subsidising a foreign carrier, where Air Malta used to operate "for free". Again I question the strategy, if any.
Yes, capacity decreased by 8.8%, cargo and mail also went down by 8% etc.
Check the revenue figures and see if they show any growth.
BTW, try at least to copy my surname right on the second try too.

M. Micallef

After the dismal pax growth rates and worrying capacity decrease in the last report I bet MIA et all went to see AF coming! However, a strategic plan is glaring obviously missing!
