She brings good tidings

The traditional “priedka tat-tifel”, or boy’s sermon, during the Christmas Eve Midnight Mass, is a Maltese custom that started way back in the 19th century.

This beautiful tradition has survived, with one important change: Girls are now allowed to recite the sermon too

This year, Ritienne Attard, 11, is doing the honours at the parish of St Paul Shipwrecked in Valletta.

In an interview with Kristina Chetcuti, Ritienne explains her feelings when she was chosen for the sermon and how she managed to learn the sermon by heart.
