Guido Bonett’s publication The Natural History of the Maltese Islands was launched on November 25 at Avantech’s premises in San Ġwann under the auspices of Parliamentary Secretary for Culture Mario de Marco.

The book is a photographic study of Maltese flora and fauna.

During the launch, Dr Louis Cassar, conservation specialist at the University, and Patrick Fenech, artist, photographer and University lecturer, spoke on how the book documents Malta’s rich and vibrant natural heritage while laying the foundation for creating wider interest in using photography for this purpose.

Dr de Marco concluded by encouraging more people to follow in Bonett’s footsteps by dedicating time to Malta’s natural surroundings.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to pre-serving and safeguarding the environment.

With hundreds of species described and over 500 images of local flora and fauna, Bonett presents an introduction to nature photography, while documenting camera settings used to achieve these results.

He highlights the possibilities in Malta for aspiring nature photographers and encourages the reader to start looking at the world in a different way, camera in hand.

Bonett has had a keen interest in nature and its conservation from a young age and he has travelled widely in his quest to observe and photograph wildlife.

The Natural History of the Maltese Islands is published by Book Distributors Ltd.
