A simple crib and a biblical tale in Gozo
December 24,25,26,29 and 30, Xagħra
Away in a manger (tucked in the village of Xagħra), the little Lord Jesus, laid down His sweet head.
The lights, the tinsel, the towering trees, the abseiler Santas and his hoofed friends will become rampant soon enough.
Nowadays, tradition and religion only seem apparent in nativity scenes. So what better way of ushering in the festive season than by directing the spotlight onto one of the live cribs organised in Gozo?
The group the Guiding Light located at the Jesus of Nazareth church is presenting the 11th edition of the live crib; this year’s theme being “For we have seen his star in the east” (Matthew 2:2).
During the past 10 years the group has presented the live crib with the sole aim of delivering a message to all visitors. It focuses on the meaning of Christ’s birth rather than the telling of a story.
Although this year’s theme is related to the three kings’ journey, visitors will be able to see innovative scenes depicting all the main themes, events and traditions related to Christ’s birth.
The nativity scene will be situated in Mannar Street, near the Church of Jesus of Nazareth in Xagħra. Entrance is free of charge.
The live crib will be open on the following dates: December 24, from 6.30 till 8 p.m; December 25 from 3 till 9 p.m.; Decmeber 26, 29, 30 from 6 till 9 p.m. and January 1, from 3 till 9 p.m.
