Investment in tourism improving results - de Marco
A garden is being developed in Pembroke with an investment of €2.4 million.
The garden is part of a €20 million Malta Tourism Authority project, co-financed by the European Union and which also includes the St Paul's Bay promenade, a walking and cycling trail and the restoration of the Madliena tower.
Another investment is the building of a €15.6 million aquarium in a public-private partnership.
Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism Mario de Pembroke today visited the works on the Pembroke garden and said the project strengthened the country's tourism product in a zone which was of utmost importance for the sector.
Investment in the product, accessibility and effective promotion were leading the country to obtain positive results with a record being achieved in the past four years. Indications were that this would be another record year.
Success in tourism, Dr de Marco said, generated commercial activity and jobs.
MTA chief executive Josef Formosa Gauci said the garden would provide tourists visiting the area with a nicer country and more recreational spaces.

Roads come before..... New City Gate, New Parliament, Break Water Bridge and gardens please!!!!!
God only knows how long us motorists have been waiting for a pot hole free road especially in villages!!!
We are not talking years.... we are talking nearly half a century now.

This is a fabulous idea, but what about Australia Hall? This was 'accidently' burnt years ago and it's another prove that things are left to rot, or vandalised as was this case, if I am not mistaken! But on the other hand I might be right. Have a glorious day all those at Pembroke & you are so lucky to have something to look forward to, so make sure that you look after it, for it might have the same faith as Australia Hall!

Near Sirens there is an enormous public toilets construction. I spoke to locals who all said that it cost lots and lots of money. They asked me if I had gone in and I said that I did not need to do so at the time. ''Well, it stinks, is very badly kept and it's a veritable disgrace that the St. Paul's Bay Local Council is not keeping it clean and well maintained.''
Hopefully P.S. Mario Demarco will send somebody to investigate. Surely if the situation is as described somebody from the Local Council needs to explain.

It wouldn't be a bad idea after all, one thing is missing, are we going to get a big influx of tourists in 2012 the way things are goling, remains to be seen and does not look very promising not just for Malta but for the whole of europe and the world as a whole. I was always told not to count my chickens before the hatch, or speculate that is not garanteed 100%

Improved accessibility, better pavements to walk on, polite staff in retail areas, polite staff in hotels, cleanliness in the streets and eating places, one price for all, non fiddling when paying for goods - - - these improve tourism.
OK - - put in a park. BUT unless there is a built in maintenance budget you may as well throw the money in the bin. (I would say drain, but we dont have many of those eh?). There are many beautiful places here in these islands - - but lots of them lack maintenance and most are in need of repair.

Well done for the achiving results in aquiring funding from the EU to revamp St Paul's Bay Promenade, Oh still not completed. The Aquarium is a good idea but it is more desperate to have Bugibba and Qawra promenade streets and pavemnts revamped after 13 years for us Citiziens and the Tourist that stroll around these areas. Not forgetting the diminishing of parking spaces that visiotrs and residents are finding it more difficult to park their viehicles on there return home from work. Let's work to Safegourd St Paul's Bay District for the better of all.

This is wonderful. Please include areas which will encourage mobility and, if keep-fit equipment is installed, place them in a discreet section, not exposed to motorists.
