A number of retailers were this morning charged with placing on the market tobacco products which did not have a pictorial warning.

The GRTU said in a statement Health Department inspectors had visited several retailers who were found to have stocks of tobacco, legally purchased before April 27, when the pictorial warning rule was introduced.

These retailers had their stocks sealed until the court hearing.

A number of submissions were raised by the GRTU appointed defence counsels today. The magistrate requested the submissions in writing and gave the Health Department until February 17 to reply.

Several other retailers are summoned to appear in court on January 20.
