After the last round of matches played in Italy’s Serie A1 last week, the race for the top scorer is hotting up, with eight goals separating the first 12 scorers in the ranking list which comprises over 130 names.

This time, Steve Camilleri has taken sole leadership with 28 goals, after netting a brace in RN Bogliasco’s 11-9 defeat away to fourth-placed AS Acquachiara.

Camilleri is one goal ahead of Italy internationals Christian Presciutti, of AN Brescia, and Valerio Rizzo, of leaders RN Savona. Valentino Gallo follows on 26.

Three foreigners are on heels of the top four, with another Italian international, Arnaldo Deserti, and German Heiko Nossek, both of Bogliasco, Alex Giorgetti, Elez Marko and Luka Loncar completing the list of players who have scored 20 or more goals.

The Maltese player is the only one in the list who has netted more than three goals per match with the others managing an average of 2.7 goals or less.

Bogliasco, still lying sixth in the table, were due to play RN Florentia late yesterday.
