PN congratulates Cuschieri
The Nationalist Party has congratulated Malta's sixth MEP Joseph Cuschieri.
This, it said, was good news for Malta as the country will now have a stronger voice in the European Parliament.
It said that Opposition leader Joseph Muscat and MEP Joseph Cuschieri should now admit how wrong they were in their scaremongering tactics when they tried to scare the Maltese of membership.
Malta was now a protagonist in the EU and it had six seats, far cry from the two seats Labour had insisted Malta would get if it became a member.

With all due respect to the new MEP but what can he contribute with in he EU parliament? what experience does he have apart from his earlier low grade Air Malta job and his contribution to decorating streets for the mount carmel feast in sliema? But the people spoke and elected him. Good luck Maltese voters.

what you are saying is warped logic.
in the sense that altough ''in a way'' you are right,,,, you are still wrong,,, in the sense that this is an extra advocate for malta.
if you cannot overcome THIS threshhold of thinking,,, boy you have problems.

Lol what a clown - didnt he say on bondi+ that he was going to refuse the seat due to the fact that he was not going to have much time left in the current legislature to make a decent contribution? Hmmm he must have changed his mind when counting the months left multiplied by the salary, allowances, perks and the list goes on.

Partit Negattiv always sees the negative side of achievement. No one can claim that joining the EU was a 100% wrong or right decision. There are pros and cons to every decision. The PN only elected to tell us about the pros. So it is good that someone did give us a glimpse of the cons.
Joseph Camilleri

A glimpse of the cons?
The PL conducted a whole campaign about how Malta would get only Lm1 million per year, how major companies would close down (remember Alfred Sant mentioning lists of companies such as Coke etc which would close down every week at mass meetings?), how Malta would be swallowed up by the EU, how Libya would be annoyed at us for joining, etc.. Remember Joseph Muscat telling us (as a Super One journalist) all this?
Vision is what differentiates the two parties and leaders. The PN has it while the PL has none.

funny Joseph you mention that because the PN have always been promising that the EU is like a cash cow that will shower us with millions. Far from the cash cow we've already had to gulp on that having had to fork EUR700,000,000 to greece (and this after we had already guaranteed a substantial amount before) - all this is basically debt we can write off because Greece is unlikely to pay us back.

@Joseph, I lost my first full time employment as a direct consequence of joining the EU so don t tell me there were no cons (Lowenbrau Malta). The removal of protective levies (aimed at protecting local industry) led to many a factory going under or having to lay off many an employee. Not only that but we were forced to introduce new levies to protect EU cow farmers and the like!

"... far cry from the two seats Labour had insisted Malta would get if it became a member."
The PN must have got it wrong. PL was probably referring to the two seats the PN has managed to win in the European Parliament since 2004.

No Mr. Mizzi, in all probability they were referring to the two seats Mintoff was hoping for, had he managed to integrate Malta with Britain. Thank God this never happened, thanks to the father of the nation, Dr. Borg Olivier. Instead of those two seats, we have a seat at the UN, which has the same vote as the seat of the UK or the USA. We have six seats in the EU with the right to Veto. But, most importantly, we have a Prime Minister who is managing our economy in a way that the rest of Europe are incapable of copying. All this is thanks to the Nationalist Party. No wonder, we are so proud of our Nationalist roots. Those that cannot see and understand our roots, must surely see the fruit of this glorious tree... independence, EU membership, strong economy, good health care, excellent education and true democracy.

No, no dear Joseph Mizzi. PN did not 'probably got it wrong'. It was Labour that got it all wrong (again). You see, we are not getting €1million a year from the EU like your expert and MEP profs told the Maltese during the battle for joining the EU. Neither are we the 'makku' that Alfred Sant told us we will all be. And above all, none of what your dear leader Joseph, told us would happen in his 'Made in Brussels' programme on Super 1 ever materialised. Much less the advent of AIDS and the invasion by Sicilians as we were told by your other Lejber leader KMB. And now dear Joseph wants all his pics to depict the EU flag behind him, after the GWU actually burnt the EU flag during one of its 'popular' demonstrations against Malta joining the EU. Or perhaps you want to re-write history as Labour unsuccessful tries over and over again? Now who got it wrong Mr Mizzi?

@ Ganninu Saliba.
Gann, you got it all wrong mate! Mintoff wanted the Maltese people to have exactly the same rights and benefits as the British people - including social services (unheard of at the time), NHS, pensions, decent wages etc - He would have achieved this, not in 1964 (when we got a piece of paper and little else), not in 1979 (when we got rid of military bases in a peaceful and civilised manner (ask our Cypriot friends what this means!), not in 2004 (when we traded what little freedom we had in exchange for a promise of heaven on earth), but in 1955. Can you imagine what it means to have wage parity with Britain 60 years ago? Having the same standards in our schools, access to British health and education services which were the envy of Europe, back then? Mintoff's only problem was that he was too forward looking and bold for his time, and those around him were either chickens or in bed with the Brits. Ganninu, study your history before you write.
