The Welsh Capital Open Meet in Cardiff last weekend proved to be a very successful experience for young Maltese swimmer Neil Muscat.

The Neptunes prodigy, under the guidance of coach Gail Rizzo, once again excelled and broke no fewer than six Age Group B records over the two-day competition.

His new record times were achieved in 200m backstroke (2:25.83), 50m freestyle (27.38), 50m backstroke (30.86), 100m freestyle (1:00.17), 50m butterfly (29.83) and 100m backstroke (1.07.66).

Muscat narrowly missed out on breaking the record in the 50m breaststroke, this being the only remaining Group B record, out of a possible 13, that still eludes him.

The ASA said the Cardiff meet produced a truly impressive performance from Muscat.

“This has been a remarkable year for young Muscat. He’s a promising talent and one to look at in future,” the ASA said.
