Details on new sports school announced

The new Sports School announced in the Budget speech will be set up within St Benedict College and will make use of the excellent facilities at the new Kirkop sports complex, Parliamentary Secretary Clyde Puli said today.
The school will accommodate boys and girls aged between 11 and 15 who excel in sports disciplines.
They will follow the normal secondary school curriculum but the school will place extra focus on sports, and timetables will be arranged with this in mind.
The school is being set up on the basis of advice on best practices in such schools, given by experts from Italy, France, Germany, Australia and Canada.
Applicants to join the school will be selected by the school board on the basis of their sports credentials and potential. Sports Associations will also be involved in the selection process.
The purpose of the school, Mr Puli said, was to nurture sports talent from a young age in a bid to raise local standards.

Dawn l-affarijiet bil-mod, iridu jsiru. Din hija, biex nghid hekk, skola 'sperimentali' u min se jkun qed jiehu hsiebha, nispera li jkollu diga certa esperjenza f'taghlim u tahrig bhal dan. Id-dinja ma saritx f'daqqa, sur Attard. Tinsiex minn liema zmien ghaddejjin minnu.

Can the Hon. Parliamentary Secretary explain how exactly the 100,000 euro allocated to “establish a specialized secondary school for sport” are going to be spent? Is a new sports school going to be built “within St. Benedict College” if the students are going to use the “excellent facilities” that already exist “at the new Kirkop sports complex”? Or is this simply an intake of a number of classes in an existing school where students follow a different curriculum, or a few changes in the timetable?
Which sports disciplines are going to be promoted at this “new school”? Will students participating in the SkolaSport programmes of the KMS or the KMS Sport Academy get any credit to get into this “new school”? Any steps to improve the level of sports and education of our students are appreciated.

This is a step in the right direction. i sincerely hope there would be no favouritism and the chosen students would be those who really prove to be our future sports men and women. I will also be looking forward to view the curricular focus both in academics, sports desired outcomes and nutritional control.

Talent Identification uses Scientific Tests which excludes favouritism.
Academic achievement goes hand in hand with sporting success.
Sports performance outcomes can be set higher since these students would be already talented.
Nutritional control can be achieved by regular assessment but for sure it has to be different from what the general public is being advised to eat.

Min ma jghatix kas l-iskola l-anqas ma jghati kas talenti ohra. Izjed nahseb li 'l-genituri ma jghemnux fit-talent t'uliedhom jew fit-tahrig mghoti.
Per ezemoju jhekk dawn it-tfal ma jitghalmux ezercizzi ta' sahha m'ghandhom l-ebda cans jghaslu l-ivell gholi.
