Msida Local Council has filed a judicial protest against Transport Malta and the government, holding them responsible for damage being caused to vehicles being driven under the bridge at Mikiel Anton Vassalli Street on the way down Regional Road near the Labour Party club.

The council said that chunks of concrete had fallen off the bridge damaging cars and potentially injuring people.

The council insisted that according to official documents, Transport Malta is responsible for the bridge/tunnel as it is part of an arterial road.

A council spokesman said this morning that while the council may be responsible for the top tarmac surface of the bridge, it is not responsible for the actual structure.

The protest came after Transport Malta officials testifying in a sitting of the Small Claims Tribunal in a case instituted by an insurance firm, insisted that Transport Malta is not responsible for the state of the bridge. The insurance firm is claiming damages of €1,300.
