Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi is in Tripoli on a 24-hour visit, his first since Muammar Gaddafi’s fall.

Dr Gonzi is accompanied by Foreign Minister Tonio Borg and Finance Minister Tonio Fenech.

The delegation was given red carpet treatment and welcomed by the Libyan deputy Prime Minister Mustafa Abushagur.

Dr Gonzi is expected to meet Libyan Prime Minister Abdurrahim El-Keib tomorrow (Monday) morning. This will be the first meeting between the two prime ministers since Mr El-Keib's appointment, although they have spoken over the phone.

He may also meet the Libyan pilots who at the start of the clashes in Libya last February defected to Malta, and the Maltese community in Tripoli.
