Your front-page story ‘Ferry ordered to turn back and pick up ... the chairman’ (November 20) highlighted the arrogance which seems to have become endemic among the government’s political appointees.

Shame also on the minister for not sacking this arrogant chairman- Eddy Privitera, Mosta

How could the chairman of Gozo Channel, Joseph Grech, believe that he was within his rights to order the captain of the Gozo ferry to turn back in order to pick him up just because he had missed the boat?

Dr Grech would have had to wait to board the next ferry. But he obviously considered this inconvenient. That hundreds of passengers were being delayed, with some of them possibly missing their appointment, was of no concern to him. Shame!

And shame also on the minister responsible for Gozo Channel for not sacking this arrogant chairman as soon as he got to know of this story.

Of course, after the story was splashed by The Sunday Times on its front page, pressure was obviously put on Dr Grech to resign, as he finally did. But I am quite sure that had The Sunday Times not reported this story, he would still be chairman of Gozo Channel.
