Three Maltese drivers will be participating in the sixth and final round of the Campionato Siciliano di Velocita in Pista at the Autodromo Valle dei Templi, Racalmuto, this weekend.
All three drivers have performed consistently well at Racalmuto in recent years but this year sees yet another milestone for the Maltese. In fact, with one round of the championship still to run, two of them are in with a very good chance of winning their respective classes.
Johann Spiteri returns to Racalmuto knowing that the 1000cc class for Formula cars, in which he will be competing, is among the most competitive in the championship.
Nevertheless, Spiteri has been outstanding all season, winning twice and finishing second on a further two occasions. He races a Suzuki-powered Jedi.
Alan Curmi was class champion at Racalmuto last season in his Radical PR6 Suzuki. He is in line to repeat his success in the 1600 Formula class following a string of wins.
Curmi is also well-placed in the local ICC championship. So, he has been very busy this season trying to cope with preparing two cars, one for each championship.
The other Maltese racer at Racalmuto will be Joshua Anastasi, again driving his JBR-4 Kawasaki SC. This is also Anastasi’s third season of circuit racing.
Anastasi won his class in 2009, had a lousy season of retirements last year, but is in contention to win his category for the second time this year.
Anastasi also leads the Pole Position championship, having put his car top of the grid on each of his two visits to Racalmuto in 2011.
