Refugees relocating to Germany
A group o 152 sub-saharan Africans will be leaving Malta to embark on a new life in Germany on Tuesday.
All had arrived in Malta after the outbreak of the crisis in Libya. They are 43 men, 73 women and 36 children from Somalia, Eritrea, Ethiopia and Sudan.
Most of them already have family ties in Germany.
In recent months the refugees participated in "cultural orientation courses" and received information about life in Germany.
Basic German language courses were offered and the German community in Malta donated warm winter clothing.
The refugees will be flown to Nuremberg on a charter flight and from there they will be allocated to different areas in the Germany.
Their first targets will be to learn German, take part in integration courses and find an appropriate job. During this transitional period they will be accommodated and financially supported.
In the last two years some 81,000 asylum seekers arrived in Germany. Some 300 refugees were relocated to Germany from Malta in recent years.

Reading some comments below, it's clear there's still a lot of confusion on this issue. 2 main points
1) They are not illegal. I'm not talking political correctness here, but legal facts. If one of these people sees a police officer walking down the road, he has nothing to fear, all his documents are in place. Not only that, but if they were staying illegally, they wouldn't have been entitled for resettlement in Germany. Not even those with temporary documents waiting for eventual deportation are eligible for resettlement, let alone people staying in Malta illegally.
2) They are not Libyans. Even if Libya was safe (which up to now, isn't), they couldn't be relocated to Libya. The UNHCR has, over the years, relocated millions of refugees to their countries of ORIGIN, but not TRANSIT countries. This is one of many examples:
http://www.unhcr.org/4cceeecc6.html
These people were relocated to the Congo because they were Congolese nationals. Had they passed through Rwanda to reach the Burundi, and eventually Rwanda became safe, they couldn't be relocated to Rwanda on that basis.
Having different opinions on an issue is a healthy thing, but spreading misinformation doesn't help anyone.

And why not relocating to Libya itself????? All you authorities are doing is encouraging more would be illegal immigrants to do the crossing. This is something which the EU cannot afford due to the severe Euro crisis but the EU can afford to sponge off its legal citizens to look after these illegals who have no right to set foot on EU soil. They came from Libya which is now stable, send them back to Libya then. No more fairy tales that Gaddafi is locking them up in cages. What is the excuse now about Libya? If Libya does not cooperate the EU should withdraw funds to help the country get back to its feet. But the EU and the UNHCR are worse than Gaddafi, they seem willing to flood Europe at our expense.

They feel the same about people like you, and you have to stay. Their opportunities and chance are vastly improved, and they have a lot to give and share with society. Our loss.
