Two brothers were charged in court today with stealing knives, cash and power tools from the government abattoir, a day after another man was accused of a similar theft.

Anthony Caruana, 29 of Zurrieq, pleaded not guilty to having stolen hand tools and other equipment worth some €900, stealing .22 calibre bullets, handling stolen property and relapsing, while his brother Mario, 33, admitted to stealing €35 in cash and 35 knives worth €20 each.

Both men were granted bail against a €500 deposit each and a personal guarantee of €1,000 each. Mario Caruana will be sentenced on Monday.
