Updated: Cyclist injured in unusual accident
FunCargo driver describes the incident
A 30-year-old cyclist from Sliema suffered facial injuries in an unusual accident this morning when he crashed into a parked FunCargo vehicle.
The accident happened in Mdina Road, Zebbug, at about 11.30 a.m.
The driver of the FunCargo, Robert Teuma, told timesofmalta.com that he stopped the car to check out a noise he was hearing from the front to check what it was.
He switched on the hazard lights and went round the car and as soon as he was going back up he saw the cyclist head down cycling towards his car.
As he could see that the cyclist was not seeing the car he tried to tell him to stop but the cyclist crashed into the back of the car smashing the rear window on impact.
Mr Teuma said he got the shock of his life as soon as he saw what happened. Blood was oozing out of the cyclist's face and the impact was such that the car looked as it had been hit with an iron bar.
He said he was kept on site by the Zebbug police while the cyclist was taken to hospital and the news that his condition was not serious was received.
