A mother and her adult son were today let off with a conditional discharge  today after admitting to having resisted the police in an unusual case involving the welfare of their husband and father.

Informed sources said the case developed when an ambulance turned up at the house of the accused last Tuesday and the crew wanted to drop off the man, who had been treated at hospital. The man suffers from dementia, cancer and other conditions. At the time he was only wearing a nappy and was covered with a sheet.

His son told the ambulance crew that his father could not be  properly look after at home because of his aggressive behaviour and his condition.

The ambulance crew refused to take the patient back and as the argument flared, the police were called and the argument continued.

The woman was conditionally discharged for a year while her son was conditionally discharged for three years.

Names are being withheld to protect the patient's privacy.
