A €275 penalty for overloading was among the fines imposed on bus company Arriva since September.
It was the largest of the lot. According to a reply in Parliament, the others ranged from five €50 contraventions for use of mobile phones to one contravention on a missing first aid box, which cost the company €100, an additional €25 per day according to contract and €100 according to law.
The information was given by Transport Minister Austin Gatt in a written reply to a parliamentary question by Leo Brincat.
Mr Brincat in his question noted that the CEO of the Transport Authority had said fines of a few thousand euro had been imposed since September.
Among the other contraventions was one related to the uniform: a €25 fine applicable according to the contract that the government has with Arriva, and €100 imposed according to law.
Six were for failure to provide information, one on a fire extinguisher, two on obstacles and another for parking.
Transport Malta had issued a number of warnings to Arriva with regard to shortcomings in terms of the contract but penalties in this regard could only start to be imposed after November 4, the minister said.
