Lou Bondi apologises to Franco Debono

Broadcaster Lou Bondi this evening publicly apologised to Nationalist MP Franco Debono, who had criticised him over the conduct of his programme on PBS.

Writing on his blog, Mr Bondi said: "In two public instances over the last weeks, Franco Debono MP criticised PBS and Bondi+.

"With reference to these criticisms I have no difficulty in stating that the programme never had the intention of offending anyone.

"In case someone, including Franco Debono MP, might have been offended by any programme, I equally have no difficulty to apologise."

Mr Debono made his most recent criticism last Sunday at the meeting of the PN general council where, without mentioning Mr Bondi, he said that broadcasters on PBS should not criticise people unfairly. Dr Debono has also been calling for a reform aimed at making the Broadcasting Authority more effective.

The sudden change of heart to my mind can only be due to an innate sense of irresponsible journalism which Mr. Bondi must be feeling. He has felt that he has exceeded the limits. Putting someone in a bad light without giving him any opportunity to exonerate himself is unbecoming of a supposed 'professional journalist'.

Mr Stewart, I cannot imagine what planet you are living on. What about the BBC UK, ABC AMERICA, ABC AUSTRALIA just to name a few of the biggest. PBS Malta better still XANDIR MALTA is just a little mino in the very sense of the word, and that what makes it very vulnerable to be corrupted by who ever is in government at the time.

god forbid that happens. Do you honestly want Net and One to be the main provider of news? Unless one is an avid supporter of either the Nationalists or the Labour Party how can a 'neutral' (floating voter) hear an unbiased news item.

I watch the 7.30 One News and then a bit of the 7.45 News - ts t like living in two seperate countries!!

Hearing the former its like Malta is sinking quickly whilst hearing the latter its as if we are the best in the world!! Its a joke sometimes. Both stations have apolitical agenda and it can only get worse closer to the election.

On the other hand I would tend to agree that PBS is too much dependig on Where's everybody ? and needs to re-balance itself but I believe that it is doing a very good job and its ratings prove it.
