Transport Minister Austin Gatt in a written reply to a parliamentary question by Leo Brincat, this evening listed fines imposed on Arriva.
In his question, Mr Brincat said that since the CEO of the Transport Authority had said that since September TM had imposed fines of a few thousand euros, would the minister specify the amounts and over what period of time they were imposed?
Dr Gatt said he assumed that Mr Brincat was referring to Arriva. He gave the following details:
Five contraventions for use of mobile phones with the applicable fine according to law being €50.
One contravention on overloading - €250 fine applicable according to the contract and €25 according to law.
One contravention related to the uniform - a €25 fine applicable according to the contract and €100 applicable according to law.
Six contraventions for failure to provide information - €100 + €25 per day according to contract, €25 according to law,
Two contraventions on obstacles - €104.82 according to law.
One parking contravention - fine ranges between €23.29 and €58.23 according to law.
One contravention on missing first aid box - €100 + €25 per day according to contract and €100 according to law.
One contravention on fire extinguisher - €100 + €25 per day according to contract and €100 according to law.
Transport Malta issued a number of warnings to Arriva with regard to shortcomings in terms of the contract but penalties in this regard could only start to be imposed after November 4, the minister said.
