It’s no excuse
I refer to the item Magistrate Acquits Driver Who Police Claim Called Them Crooks (November 15). It makes some interesting reading in that it goes to show, if proof were needed, that quite a number of police officers are not well versed in the law they should be promoting.
As far as I know tickets cannot be issued for parking in tow zones. The signs clearly state that the vehicle can be towed – if parked in the designated area. So these police officers were duty-bound to call the towing company to remove the vehicle and nothing else.

personally i think all police should be given an eye test and training on how to use car rear veiw mirrors, they seem to only see a vehicle parked, but never a vehicle travelling with driver using mobile, not wearing seat belt, unrestrained children swinging around in back seat, apart from seeing the car in front of them the police driver can also observe the car and occupants behind them by using the rear veiw mirror ?each day i drive around the island and see what the police car in front/behind/alongside of me fails to see, perhaps its the thick black smoke thats comming from the vehicle in front thats obscuring their sight?
not wishing to tell tales but i will on this occasion, my husband would not dream of setting off without his seat belt on when in the UK but he does not bother with it here which causes many an arguement between us, goes to show that there is no respect for police or its piddling fines here in malta, put the fines at €100 and upwards for no seat belts and you will notice the difference but make it €300 for unrestrained child/children for endangering their young lives, no warnings for these offences they are serious

Gee, it's good to learn about that. It takes some time for a tow truck to come along. Enough time to pop in a shop and get a paper, some bread and milk. Thanks, that was a very good tip.
No wonder there is always some vehicle under that sign in Naxxar Road, San Gwann, in front of HSBC.
Maybe there are many more people that know about this little slip in the 'Parking Rules' . After all, one can't keep a tow truck stand by all day long in one place. Or, maybe they can?
