Nationalist Party functionary Berta Sullivan wrote a letter asking for replies and policies. Regarding the former, where do I start? With our dismal record for the highest rate of early school-leavers among the EU member states? That Malta has the lowest labour force participation rate?

... policies... rubbished when proposed by Labour...- Helena Dalli MP (Labour), Marsascala

I am spoilt for choice but does Ms Sullivan really want answers on the deficit, the public transport system and the rest from Labour? Isn’t that a bit rich after so many years of Nationalist governance?

I have already given examples of policies that had been rubbished when proposed by Labour, only to be later adopted by the PN. But I shall oblige Ms Sullivan and remind her of the most recent case.

After Labour scientifically proved that the policy on the extension of maternity leave would be beneficial to the overall economy, the Prime Minister realised he had to act upon this. The result of the Edward Scicluna study was staring him in the face when the government had hitherto been resisting this policy, waffling about EU level playing fields.

It’s good that the government is now committed to the implementation of this policy (hopefully, the process won’t be aborted in the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development) and that the Prime Minister does not consider it superficial and lacking substance, as Ms Sullivan does.
