The new EU-funded Physics laboratory has some really impressive equipment and via the library we now have access Science Direct, an extensive scientific journal database that covers a lot of the research we need to do. So, for now at least, I haven’t found anything wanting.
Daniel Croucher, BSc. Chemistry with Materials, 1st year.
Free education is a privilege, so certain shortcomings have to be forgiven. Overall, my impression so far is quite positive and, as an IT student, I’ve found most of the resources I need readily available.
The main problem is that the University seems to have been built to accommodate a certain number of students, and it’s now overpopulated.
In the library, for example, while the books and journal services are more than adequate, there is a perennial lack of space to work as well as a shortage of lockers at the library entrance.
Jake Dalli, ICT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, 1st year.
As far as the library is concerned I feel that we’re well served. The journal database is very extensive, especially for a free service, and the fact that it’s accessible from home is a huge help. I’ve never had any problems finding the books I need and there’s plenty of space to work.
Unfortunately, when it comes to lectures, in many cases lecture rooms are uncomfortable and not large enough to accommodate the amount of students using them.
