DanceEtc recently launched the first of its dance-related lecturesat The Dance Workshop in Guardamangia.

Photographer John Grech delivered a lecture entitled ‘Dance and the photographer’. He described the difficulties the photographer faces when trying to snap dancers in motion, namely that of trying to capture the movement in a still photo, given the constraints of speed of the dance and the available lighting during a performance.

In the second part of the lecture/workshop, four dancers performed a short dance and the participants used their cameras to try capture highlights on camera. Grech discussed some of the shots and the techniques used after the session.

DanceEtc was created to promote a holistic approach to dance and not just looking at dance through dance classes and technique.

The scope of this project is to give dancers and dance afficionados a wider view of interesting subjects related to dance.

The next session – ‘Dance and the moving body’ – will be held at The Dance Workshop Studios on Saturday. The guest lecturer is physiotherapist Stephen Lungaro-Mifsud.

These sessions are open to anybody interested in dance aged over 13. Call Theresa Lungaro-Mifsud on 9942 9233 for more details.
